Electrical and Optical Interference
What are electrical and optical interference effects?
Electrical interference effects:
- Interference with the radio signal from air navigation facilities (VOR, NDB, ILS, DME, GNNS or radio equipment) due to shadowing, distortion, attenuation.
Optical interference:
- Glare and reflections on e.g. pilots or air traffic control employees (due to PV systems or exhaust plumes, etc.).
- Danger of confusion with navigation or approach lighting systems.
A distinction is made between interference within, below and outside safety zones.
The competent authorities for electrical and optical interference are:
- within safety zones of civil aerodromes: BMK
- within safety zones of military airfields: BMLV
- below and outside safety zones: Austro Control GmbH
