Further information about the exam:

The theory examinations are taken in electronic form, based on the question pool ECQB (European Central Question Bank, see therefore European Central Question Bank (ECQB) | EASA (europa.eu)) of EASA (except for PPL, here a national question catalogue is used); in the area of CPL, IR, BIR and ATPL, examinations are held exclusively in English. In the PPL area, a choice can be made between German and English language.

The examination questions are based on the single-choice system. Only one answer per question is correct; incorrectly answered questions do not result in a loss of points. If you think that a question cannot be answered correctly or is incorrect, you have the opportunity to comment on it during the examination. Your comments will then be checked by our experts and only in case of correctness of your appeal the examination result will be changed.
Please note that only comments written during the examination can be taken into account.

For each examination subject, the candidate will be given an individual number of questions or tasks according to the rules of Regulation (EU) No. 1178/2011, based on the scoring system per examination (not every question has the same number of points, so there may be a difference in the number of questions). At the end of the examination, the examination subject must be completed and all calculations and notes must be returned to the examination invigilator, even if not all questions have been answered.

Please note:
  • The order of the examination subjects to be completed can be freely chosen.
  • The time allowed for each individual examination subject is fixed and cannot be increased.
  • Within the examination time frame which is binding for you, breaks of max. 15 minutes between the individual examination subjects are possible; a break during an ongoing examination is not possible.
  • With the exception of candidates, external persons will not be admitted to the examinations.

An examination subject is only considered passed if a candidate has achieved at least 75% of the possible number of points in this subject. Below 75% there is no rounding up to a positive result:
(74.9% will be considered as failed).

The theoretical PPL examination comprises all required examination papers (9 subjects) on one day. For organisational reasons, it is not possible to divide the subjects over several dates. An applicant must repeat the entire examination like a first attempt if he has not passed all subjects in four attempts or within the 18 months mentioned.

The examination is deemed to have been passed if the applicant completes all the examination items within 18 months, calculated from the end of the calendar month in which the applicant first took the examination. A passed theoretical examination is accepted for the issuance of a PPL(A) for a period of 24 months from the date of passing.

A theoretical CPL/IR/CB-IR/ATPL exam can be taken in several sessions, but no more than six. The entire exam, including any subsequent exams, must be successfully completed within the six sessions mentioned. A session consists of ten consecutive calendar days. No examination paper can be repeated within these ten days, otherwise a new session begins from the time of repeating.

The examination is considered passed if the candidate completes all parts of the examination within 18 months, calculated from the end of the calendar month in which the candidate first took the examination. An applicant must repeat the entire examination as if it were a first attempt if he has failed an individual examination paper in four attempts or if he has not passed all examination papers in six sessions or within the aforementioned 18 months. Before retaking the examination, the applicant shall undergo further training to be determined by the appropriate Aviation Training Organisation (ATO) in accordance with aviation safety requirements.

Invigilators have the right to inspect all candidates and their equipment on the table at any time during the examination. In case of non-compliance with the examination procedures, candidates will be excluded from all further examinations in all EASA Member States for a minimum period of one year in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011.
